Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 8:1-20

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.

SERMON: AWARENESS & AMAZEMENT

Main Idea: An awareness of our situation without God elicits an amazement of our situation with God.

Text Notes:

  • God’s people live because of God’s Word. (1-5)
  • God is the reason for His people’s blessings. (v6-10)
  • God’s people must not claim God’s glory as their own. (v11-17)
  • Moses warns Israel of the consequences of forgetting God. (v18-20)

LIFE NOTE: Proper gratitude for God comes from awareness of our sin and amazement at our Savior.

Prayer: Lord God, I am so amazed that a great God like You would love someone like me. Despite my sins and shortcomings, You saved me through Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross. Help me to become more and more aware of what You have done in my life that I may grow in my amazement and praise of You. I pray these things in Jesus’ Holy Name, AMEN.
