Today’s Reading: Psalm 143

Because of Your name, Yahweh, let me live. In Your righteousness deliver me from trouble

Psalm 143:11

Reflection: Because of the LORD’s Name, He has been good to grant salvation to His people. What an amazing testament of God’s faithfulness to hear and answer prayer far beyond what the psalmist desires. In a time of trouble, King David asks for his life to be spared. He sees his enemies surrounding him and seeks the LORD’s help. God is good to rescue David from his enemies. while there are so many against him, the LORD grants His protection and safety to preserve David.

God meets David’s immediate needs, but also fulfills an even greater need through the work of the Savior, Jesus. The LORD foresees our needs before we know about them. He knows what is required to preserve our eternity and has set into motion and finished the work to save our souls. The beauty of this work is that it has all been done because of the LORD’s Name. It has been done out of His attributes of love, compassion, and mercy. It has been accomplished because of His faithfulness and grace. If anything that God did was becuase of what we deserved, there would only be justice and righteousness accomplished against us. There would only be punishment for our sin. But because of His Namesake – His character and His Will – the LORD has saved us. He has glorified Himself by doing what He desires in spite of us. O praise the Name of the LORD, for by it we have been shown His great love.

Prayer: LORD thank You for being a wondrous and mighty God. Thank You for showing Your grace to me, a sinner. Thank You for Your salvation, for loving me even when I did not know You. I give You praise for Your amazing love. May Your Name be exalted forever by your faithful servants, for You have truly done great things. I love You, LORD. I pray these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
