Today’s Reading: Psalm 144

Lord, what is man, that You care for him, the son of man, that You think of him?

Psalm 144:3

Reflection: The rich blessings that the LORD decides to pour out upon His people cannot be explained outside of His great love for them. Though humanity is weak and frail, here today and gone tomorrow, God is good to fulfill their every need. There is nothing that they have done to receive such abundant blessing. It is only given freely out of God’s great desire for those He loves. To His eyes, a thousand years are like a day. In the span of eternity each person’s life is but an insignificant moment. In contrast, the Eternal God is not only everlasting, but also is the One Who brings all things to fruition. All things that happen throughout the universe concern Him. All events are worked together according to His perfect Will, every lightning flash and every ebb and flow of water. Everything is accounted for according to plan. There is so much that the LORD orchestrates in His Sovereignty. And in all this, He has not forgotten His people. He ensures that they are cared for. He provides their every need.

The blessings themselves that we receive from the LORD are precious gifts to behold. But even more wonderful is the reminder that every gift received has come from an eternal, all-powerful, sovereign God Who cares for us. Happy are those who remember His faithfulness, His goodness, and His Lordship over all.

Prayer: Praise You, LORD God of all creation, for Your mercies which are new every morning and Your faithfulness which is shown undeserved. Thank You for never ceasing to show Your great mercy, grace, and provision. Thank You, LORD, for Your abounding love. I pray that You help me to view each blessing You have given in light of Who You are, that I would be moved to thankfulness and praise unto You at all that You continue to give and to show. I love You, LORD, in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
