Today’s Reading: John 14:1-6

“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

John 14:1-6

Reflection: In times of uncertainty or worry, we can take heart remembering the words of our Savior Jesus. After hearing that their Messiah will soon be leaving them, the disciples have every reason to be troubled. But Jesus tells them not to be. While they cannot get rid of their concerns by setting them aside, the disciples can focus instead on Jesus and the Father. The Work of Jesus on the Cross will ensure everlasting life to all who believe. Therefore, in the midst of uncertain times, Jesus says that we can be certain in Him.

Believers in Jesus have so much to look forward to, not only in this life, but also in the next. Just as Jesus has gone to prepare a place for His disciples, He has gone also to prepare a place for each one who believes. For those who are lonely, Jesus promises eternal fellowship with Him. Loneliness is dispelled by eternal communion with the Father and the Son. For those who are outsiders, there is a guaranteed place to dwell with the Lord. Not only do we dwell with the Lord, but He also dwells with us. Jesus Himself provides a place to stay and to belong. For those in need, Jesus prepares a place where all our needs will be met by Him and with Him. Moreover, because He declares Himself as the Way to this new place, every need is also met in Him. These guarantees exist by our Lord’s Providence here and now, and they are experienced in fullness in the Kingdom of God. While there are unknowns around every corner, the Promise of our Savior is a guarantee that we can cling to. In all situations, we can trust in Him and look forward to all He has in store for us.

Prayer: Precious Lord Jesus, You are the Great Provider. In You I have all that I need because You are all I need. Thank You for being faithful and trustworthy. Thank You for always keeping Your promises. I pray that You would continue to grow my trust in You. Help me to be assured that You are in control of all situations, that every thought of worry or concern I have would dissipate in the knowledge of Your Truth. Cause me to be filled with Your Hope always. I pray all of these things in Your Holy Name, AMEN.
