Today’s Reading: Psalm 96

Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation from day to day.

Psalm 96:2

Reflection

The LORD our God is worthy of praise. The psalmist urges all people to sing praises unto God. This praise shouldn’t be just any old praise. It should be praise that is as deep and wide as His Love which has first been shown to us.

God deserves a praise that is wide. The psalmist urges all the earth to give praise to the LORD. Throughout the vast expanse of space and time, all nations are called to declare His glory. The Good News of His marvelous deeds are to be shared with all peoples. The whole earth is exhorted to worship God. God deserves a praise that is deep. A new song, a fresh outpouring of worship and thanks to God should be ascribed to Him. Because of His glory throughout all creation, heaven and earth not only give praise to God, but they resound with praise from a wellspring of gratefulness for all that He has done. The seas are called to swell with gladness, and the forest shouts for joy. Mighty is the degree of exultation given unto God by all living things, great and small! All are to give their whole being to ascribe to God the praise that He deserves.

God deserves our best of everything, including our praise. Just as God so faithfully bestows upon us mercies which are new every morning; just as He blesses us in abundance; just as He diligently works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose; just as He overwhelms us with joy and peace by His constant Presence; just as He willingly gave everything on the Cross for the sake of our salvation, so does He deserve all of the worship and praise we can give to Him.

Prayer

Holy and Everlasting God, You are worthy of all praise and glory. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. There is no one like You in all of the heavens and the earth.  Lord, You deserve all of the praise and worship I can give to You. Please help me be ever grateful to You for all the marvelous works You have done. I love You, Lord, and lift up Your Holy Name. In the Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ my Lord, I pray, AMEN.
