Today’s Reading: Psalm 134

Now praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord who stand in the Lord’s house at night!

Psalm 134:1

Reflection: The Lord God deserves praise at all times. It is easy to praise God when we have received all that we have asked for, when we are high up on a hilltop of contentment and security, when we are basking in the countless reminders of His blessings poured out upon us. But what about praise in the night, when we are surrounded by darkness and not able to see where we are headed? In the hours of the night when we are weary, when we are surrounded by uncertainty of what’s ahead, that is when the psalmist exhorts us to praise the Lord. For in God’s House and in His Presence, even at night, we can give Him a posture of praise. Here is the time when we can stand upright to give Him honor and lift our hands to show our surrender. He is the God who deserves praise that begins within our heart and is extended through every part of ourselves.

Praise helps us to focus on the Blessor, Who has given us all that we need. Recalling our Lord and His Providence upon us makes the joy of our blessings much sweeter. In praise, each good and perfect gift that we have been freely given by God becomes a sign of His care and compassion, proofs of His Love. By these things, we are reminded that He is the ultimate Giver. Whether we see an endless landscape of promise before us or are walking in the dead of night with only Him as our Light, our Lord God reminds us that He is more than sufficient for us. He deserves every praise we can give to Him.

Prayer: Loving God, You deserve all praise and glory. In both the bright light of day and the darkness of night You shall be given honor and thanks for all that You have done. You are Good, Lord, in all situations. Your Will is perfect in the midst of all circumstances. Thank You for the reminders of Your Faithfulness and Love that You show in abundance. Thank You for Your Salvation through Your Son Jesus Christ. I pray, Lord, that You would cause me to praise You at all times. Please, Father, may the reminder of Your endless Goodness fill me with a fervent desire to live in thanks to You. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN.
