Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 9:14-20

“At this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over My people Israel. He will save them from the hand of the Philistines because I have seen [the affliction of] My people, for their cry has come to Me.”

1 Samuel 9:16

Reflection: God is the Master Orchestrator of all situations. In carrying out His Plan to provide Israel with the King they desire, God displays His Power and Sovereignty as the true Ruler over all things. When unsuspecting Saul takes a trip across the hill country to find his father’s lost donkeys, he is led to the prophet Samuel, who is expecting to meet Saul. Saul’s every step is already known and anticipated by God. Likewise, Samuel is prepared by God beforehand to receive Saul and anoint him as King over Israel. Saul is led, Samuel is prepared, and the donkeys are kept under God’s protection and care. God is at work in these separate situations to bring about His One Purpose.

Whether we are unaware of God’s movement in our circumstances like Saul, or devoted to and aware of God’s Will like Samuel, the Lord moves in and about every situation, weaving it all together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes. In all His Work, God continues to prove over and over again His Power and Might and Sovereignty. The accounts of His involvement in the lives of His people are so abundant in Scripture. Imagine the countless more that have not been recorded outside of the memories of His faithful servants! No matter the circumstance, God is in control. We find peace when we rest in His Sovereignty.

Prayer: Sovereign God, You hold the the universe in the palm of Your Mighty Hand. There is nowhere I could go which is outside of Your Rule. Thank You for the peace You give when I trust in Your control of every situation. Help me to relinquish my own desire for control, Lord. Help me to trust You and rely on You more in every circumstance. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
