Today’s Reading: Psalm 56

” In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

Psalm 56:10-11

Reflection

God is trustworthy. Even as David is surrounded by enemies who seek to harm him, he is assured of God’s Presence with Him. David says to God, “when I am afraid, I will trust in You.” This is the same man who fought off lions and bears to protect his flock as a shepherd in the fields, the one who fought Goliath, the one who fought valiantly as a soldier in battle. But at this moment, David is so outnumbered by enemies that even he experiences fear. In the midst of being afraid, David cries out to God. While he is still afraid, he makes the choice to put his trust in Him. David cannot remove his own fear from within himself, but he can seek God, Whose grace and power dispels fear and replaces it with trust.

God is for David because he trusts in Him. Even though David’s enemies are capable of causing great harm, David finds assurance in God’s incomparable power. As strong and shrewd as David is, he is completely dependent on what God will do for him against his enemies. David has limits, just like we do. But Glory be to God that He is Good, and able to work in all situations where we ask Him for help and trust in Him. Is there a circumstance in your life that you are having trouble solving on your own? Is there a situation of uncertainty or fear that you are facing? Go to the One in Whom we can entrust everything. First seek the help of God and put your trust in Him.

Prayer

Almighty God, I praise You that You are the God of my salvation. There is no one else in the heavens or the earth that has Your Power and Authority. There is none like You. Thank You for all You continue to do in my life. Please help me in every situation to put my trust in You. You deserve my trust Lord. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
