Today’s Reading: Psalm 47

God reigns over the nations; God is seated on His holy throne.

Psalm 47:8

Reflection: “Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with a jubilant cry.” We have cause to celebrate because of the LORD our God and King! Listen to what cause the psalmist gives us. God exercises His reign over all the earth in great display of His Sovereignty. He works His Will even through the allowance of freewill among humanity. He weaves together His purpose even in a world of sin. He has set aside an inheritance for His people – our Messiah, Jesus – Who has brought about eternal Salvation. The LORD is exalted high above all people. No one can match His authority and no one can exercise His degree of power.

What an assurance we have in the reminder that the LORD the King is our King! Relying on the authority of humanity is futile, for it is temporal and it is imperfect. It is flawed because of the sin that resides in every human heart. But to rely on the authority of the Perfect and Holy God is to trust in the One Who will always ensure righteousness and justice, true goodness and grace, constant love. Those who rely on God as King are guaranteed to deliver shouts of joy, for He remains triumphant over all the universe. His Victory has been shared with us, has benefitted us because we are His people.

Live rejoicing, followers of God through Jesus Christ. There is no corner of the earth in which He is rendered powerless. There is no situation that He cannot control. There is no heart seeking after Him that He will forsake. The LORD is greatly exalted, and gives us great cause to shout for joy.

Prayer: Loving God, our great LORD and King, I adore You. I exalt You. I worship You. I rejoice in knowing that You are in complete control of the universe. Thank You for Your constant care. Thank You for ensuring my eternal safety and preserving my faith in You. Thank You for being so good. I pray, LORD, that You help me to remember in every situation that You are King over all things. Teach me how to live trusting in Your great sovereignty. Show me how to rely on You completely as I walk in Your Way. I lift up these prayers to You in the Name of Your Son Jesus Christ, my Lord, AMEN.
