Today’s Reading: Psalm 106:36-48

When He heard their cry, He took note of their distress, remembered His covenant with them, and relented according to the abundance of His faithful love.

Psalm 106:44-45

Reflection

The Lord saves according to His faithful Love. He provides salvation to His people who are completely helpless to save themselves. We are reminded of this through the story of Israel, who, after being saved and set apart by God in the midst of other nations, abandon God to worship gods of surrounding nations. God’s righteous punishment allows the people to go down a path of destruction, but does not leave them there. When the people cry out to Him, God shows His faithfulness by granting them Salvation.

We must never forget that we share a relationship with God due to His Salvation. We needed God to save us from our  sin because we were helpless to save ourselves. The choices that Israel makes against God are very saddening. When reading their story, we can easily scoff at their poor decisions and betrayal of God, and marvel at the wonder of God’s Grace towards them. But a closer look at Israel helps us to more correctly see our own tendency to fail God too. News stories and culture easily point the finger at others, saying “look how bad those people are,” all the while distracting us from the devastation that our own sin causes. But the Bible reminds us of our own sin, and our need for the Salvation that God freely gives to us. Praise God from everlasting to everlasting, for we have been saved by Him! We can rejoice in the Lord because of what He has done for us.

Prayer

Hallelujah! Lord, You are Faithful. Thank You for Your Salvation. Thank You for Your Son Jesus. I am reminded today that You have saved me from my sin because I could not save myself. Please fill my thoughts everyday with the joy of Your Salvation story. Help me to look upon others with the same compassion that You have shown to me. As I seek You, continually draw me nearer to You in Faith. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Precious Name, AMEN.
