Today’s Reading: Psalm 143

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

Psalm 143:8

Reflection

As King David prays to God in distress, his knowledge of God’s character assures us who seek Him also during situations of difficulty. How comforting it is to know God for Who He truly is.

God hears our prayer. He bends His ear to our distress and responds in His Faithfulness and Righteousness. For those Who seek His Righteousness, He imputes it to them through his Son, that we are spared from the Judgment that we deserve against us. The Lord brings to mind all that He has done for us. By His new mercies, He makes Himself known. God comforts us with His unfailing love and guides us into everlasting life. He in His Power rescues us from our enemies. God is our hiding place. In His Presence, we have nothing to fear.

All that David asks God to be, He is. All that David asks God to do, He does. This is not because David prays to an obedient god who grants his every wish and is at his beckon call. It is because David prays to the God Who is already all that David needs. David knows that God is compassionate and loving in nature, Who chooses to love His Creation. In our distress, this is the unchanging God Who hears our prayers. In all circumstances, this is the almighty God Who answers His servants.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You deserve praise for all that You are, and all You in Your Mercy have revealed Yourself to be. You meet our every need, Lord. You give every good thing that we receive. You guide and protect us with utmost care, Lord. Thank You for being so Faithful. Thank You for loving me so fully and completely. I pray that in situations of distress or uncertainty, you would prompt me to set my eyes on You, and that in times of trial, I would be filled with the Truth of Who You are. Teach me, Lord, to Trust You in all circumstances. Teach me how to live with gratefulness to You all the time. I pray these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
