Today’s Reading: Psalm 119:89-96

Lord, Your word is forever; it is firmly fixed in heaven.

Psalm 119:89

Reflection: God’s word is everlasting, firmly fixed in Heaven. The teachings of humanity are ever-changing, ebbing and flowing in and out like waves that never settle. But the Word of God never changes. It lasts forever. In the very beginning, the Lord God spoke all of Creation into existence. Life that we experience around us exists, lives, and breathes because it has been established and sustained by what God has spoken. This is why the psalmist declares his need for God’s precepts or commands. He is sustained by adhering to them. In remembering and delighting in the Lord’s precepts, the psalmist is saved and preserved.

By God’s precepts, we too are kept. By remembering them and living by them, we, like the psalmist, enjoy the fullness of life that God has designed for us. God’s commands to us can be easily interpreted as simply rules to follow for fear of His Wrath. But His precepts are much more than that. They preserve us from the dangers of the world and provide to us God’s Wisdom and Protection. They remind us of our need to trust in our God and all that He has done for us. Most importantly, they teach us how to live in relationship with Him Who gives us life in its fullness. God calls us to live by the precepts that He has established so that, like His Word, we would also be kept with Him for eternity.

Prayer: Loving God, You are so gracious to bless me with Your precepts. You are so wonderful to provide through Your commands, for You keep me by them and protect me through them. Thank You for by Your Word teaching me how to trust in You, and how to live in relationship to You. All that You do continues to remind me of Your Faithfulness and Compassion. I pray that You would help me live fully in all that You command by Your Word. Please teach me how to trust You enough to surrender my life to You fully, for only You, through Your Son Jesus, provide Eternal Life. I love You Lord, and pray all of these things in Christ’s Precious Name, AMEN.
