Today’s Reading: Jeremiah 15:15-21
Therefore, this is what the Lord says: If you return, I will restore you; you will stand in My presence.
Jeremiah 15:19a
Reflection
Because the Lord our God is faithful, He deserves our faithfulness to Him in all situations. God’s Faithfulness allows us to trust and believe in Him completely, and is the example of what He deserves from us in relationship with Him. After hear the Lord’s coming Judgment that will come upon the last kingdom of Israel, the prophet Jeremiah pleads to God, asking for his safety and protection. Jeremiah reminds God of the suffering he has endured for Him, how he fully accepted God’s prophesy and separated himself from those who were ungodly. But as Jeremiah pleads to God, he also doubts God. “You truly have truly become like a mirage to me,” he says against the Almighty God. In the uncertainty of his own situation, Jeremiah’s faith in God has become fragile. He is losing faith in his Lord.
Even in our own efforts to be faithful to God, we fall vastly short of the faithfulness He shows. But God in His Faithfulness never fails us. Even in the midst of Jeremiah’s doubt, God responds with an opportunity to return to Him and receive protection and deliverance in His Presence. All Glory be to God that He is not like us, that He does not forsake us, that He instead is an example of what true faithfulness is and allows us to be recipients of it when we turn to Him! When our perspective also becomes like Jeremiah’s, may the Lord’s call to Jeremiah resound to us too: “If you return, I will restore you; you will stand in my Presence.”
Prayer
Loving God, You are so faithful. You prove over and over again Your steadfast Faithfulness to us, Your people. Thank You for this reminder that even in our own failings against You, You welcome us into Your presence when we seek You wholeheartedly. Thank You for granting me this blessing through You Grace, Lord. Thank You for Your Faithfulness. I pray that You would teach me and strengthen me by Your Spirit to be wholly faithful to You, that You would separate from me anything within me that does not bear Your Likeness. Teach me how to prioritize You at all costs and in all ways. You deserve absolute faithfulness from me. I pray these things in Jesus’ Mighty Name, AMEN.
