Today’s Reading: Psalm 18

He brought me out to a wide-open place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.

Psalm 18:18

Reflection: When the LORD rescues His people, He rescues completely. As we are drowning in a sea of sin, He does not just do enough to bring our head above the waves. The psalmist reminds us that our Father in Heaven pulls us out of sin completely. He draws us out of the crashing tide. In our weariness, the LORD is our support Who strengthens and protects us. When the LORD rescues His people, He rescues permanently. Not only does He pull us out of deep waters, but He also sets us on dry ground. By His rescue, we are set at peace in a wide open place, safe and secure to enjoy His Presence. Not only does He bring the psalmist away from danger, but He brings him closer to Himself. His blessing is that we are not ever left to fend for ourselves, but are constantly cared for by Him.

O praise the God who pulls us out of the deep waters and sets us high upon a rock! Praise Him Who is not too far away on His throne in heaven to reach down and save us! Nothing can stand against the Great Rescuer Who is quick to bring His overwhelming help. All who know His refuge are kept utterly safe.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being our Rescue and Strength. Thank You for being our Rock and Fortress. I was overwhelmed by sin until You by Your Grace saved me. I am safe in Your loving care. Please help me to live in thankfulness to all that you’ve done for me. Please teach me to rest in the safety and love that only You provide. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Precious Name, AMEN.
