Today’s Reading: Acts 8:26-39

So Philip proceeded to tell him the good news about Jesus, beginning from that Scripture.

Acts 8:35

Meditation: Jesus is the answer that we need. He fulfills the Law of God and the words of the prophets who spoke of His coming. In seeking to understand God’s Word, we find its full meaning when we examine all of Scripture with the Gospel Message in mind. As the Ethiopian official seeks answers in Scripture, God miraculously orchestrates an encounter with His servant Philip. It is by God’s direction that Philip approaches the official and helps him to understand a prophecy about Jesus. The official’s desire to understand God’s Word is seen and known by God, Who responds graciously by granting the knowledge that the official seeks. Of all the things that God could reveal to the official, He helps him understand the story of the Gospel, the saving work of Jesus. The Gospel Message is what brings the official to profess his faith in God. The understanding of Jesus is what causes the official to go away rejoicing.

God the Father desires that we know about His Son. Jesus’ work on the Cross is the Truth which reveals all that we need to know about God. As the Gospel story remains the crux of our faith, let us also remember that it is exactly what others who do not know God need to know about Him as well. There is no greater truth than the Gospel Truth which saves, redeems, and restores humanity. Our Heavenly Father shows us His great love, grace, power, righteousness, sovereignty, authority, holiness, and faithfulness through the story of Jesus. As bearers of God’s Truth, let us be sure to profess that which God Himself wants people to know through His Son Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the Gospel. Thank You for Your saving work through Jesus. I rejoice in what You’ve done for me through Him. Let my joy be seen by others, Lord, who do not yet know You. May it serve as a testimony of Your love and an opportunity to share the Gospel Message with them, too. In Jesus’ Precious Name I pray, AMEN.
