Today’s Reading: Psalm 127

Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.

Psalm 127:1

Reflection

Only the Lord God builds lasting work. Whatever He chooses to do either through His people of by some other means is guaranteed to stand the test of time as He wills it. On the other hand, whatever work that humanity accomplishes of its own power and strength lasts only for a time, then fades or decays. Limited beings can only produce limited works.

This is why doing the work of the Lord is the most worthwhile work upon which one can expend their time, energy, and resources. Obeying the Will of God is the most meaningful endeavor one can ever seek to fulfill. Because the Eternal God has the ability to produce through and within us that which lasts forever, heavenly fruit and good harvest, one’s surrender to His Work is never in vain. The Work of God is not reserved for only some of His people. It is a privilege and responsibility to which everyone who follows Him happily commits. It requires our surrender to His authority and power. For while we are His hands and feet, we receive direction and strength from His Headship to complete all that He sets before us. And all that is completed through Him cannot be undone. Is the work you do by the direction and Will of God? All that is done of ourselves is in vain. But all that is accomplished of the Lord is truly worthwhile.

Prayer

Sovereign King, my Lord and God, all that You do is Wonderful. All that You have accomplished in Your Plan is of wise and beautiful design. Thank You for all Your mighty Works which point to You. Thank You especially for Your perfect saving Work on the Cross through Jesus. You are truly Good, Lord. Thank You for also allowing me to be a part of Your great Work in the world today. Thank You for using me as a part of Your Plan. Please help me be surrendered to Your Work completely. Help me to trust in the Work that You are doing in and through me. Show me how to live a life which honors You and Your desire. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
