Today’s Reading: Ecclesiastes 1:1-11

What does a man gain for all his efforts he labors at under the sun?

Ecclesiastes 1:3

Meditation: A life lived without an eternal perspective is futile. There is nothing in this world we can work for that brings lasting happiness or satisfaction. Even in all of his wealth, King Solomon, the writer of Ecclesiastes, understood the limits of satisfaction that the world was able to provide.

Groundbreaking discoveries, life-changing events, important decisions made regarding this world quickly become buried and forgotten underneath the span of time. Our investments and efforts in things of the world do not last. This is why working to earn the world’s pleasures is futile. Life without God, a life which begins and ends on earth, can bring no satisfaction. On the other hand, life with God is an eternal life, which brings eternal, lasting blessings. When living with God, our lives on earth are a small portion of our eternal existence with God. Living life with God is not only eternal, but is also fulfilling. It gives us an eternal calling to do work for God that lasts eternally. It allows us to experience a life of purpose and fulfillment which God desires for us.

Are you living your life with God, or are going through life without Him? There is nothing on earth we can earn that is greater than what we can receive from God and keep for eternity. To escape a life of futility, choose to to live life with God.

Prayer: Lord God, I thank You for blessing me with eternal life through You. Thank You for granting me a life of purpose by Your unmatched love and grace. Help me to live today and each day with Your eternal perspective in mind. I love You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN.
