Today’s Reading: 1 John 4:1-6

You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

1 John 4:4

Reflection: We are more than conquerors because of Jesus Christ! While there are many spirits present in the world which are not of God, the Apostle John reminds us to be assured that the Spirit of God is far more powerful than these that the LORD has conquered. God’s Work has made us victorious. God Himself has done all that was needed to conquer Satan, sin, and death. God alone has accomplished this Victory, and yet it is also ours to claim. Why? Because of our union with God through Jesus. Since God lives within us His people, the powers of darkness have no control over us. We are God’s and God is ours. And we have become those who celebrate their King Who has returned victorious from battle. We rejoice, assured of our well-being and safety, and have our Lord to thank for it.

Paul reminds us to be on our guard against spirits of darkness, entities which are not of God. Since he cannot conquer us, Satan tries to tempt us away from the Conqueror. But as we stay with God, we stand in His unshakable Victory. Test all things against the Spirit of God and know that as God’s people, we are secure with Him. He by His great Power and Love has made us more than conquerors.

Prayer: Loving God, thank You for Your victory through Jesus Christ. Thank You for Your Power which You wielded for my sake. Thank You also for living within me, securing me from all forces of darkness, and preserving me for Your Will. You are so loving to do all of these things. I pray that You would keep me near to You, Lord. Please keep me under the shadow of Your mighty Wings, that I would be set apart to be used only for Your good Works. Help me also to discern by the knowledge of Your Truth what teachings are truly of You. I pray all of these things in the Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, AMEN.
