Today’s Reading: Psalm 31:1-5

Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You redeem me, Lord, God of truth.

Psalm 31:5

Meditation: “Into Your hand I entrust my spirit…” These words were among the last that Jesus uttered as He hung on the Cross. They are words of surrender, not to death, but to His Father who would bring about His victorious resurrection. They declare confidence in the power and authority the Father had to fulfill His promise of redemption for His people.

David seeks safety and security in God with this same confidence in who he knows God to be. God is his Rock: permanent and reliable, a sure and stable foothold, unlike shifting sand. God is faithful: One who can always be counted on, a Fortress and Refuge, a place of protection from the vilest and strongest enemies. God is righteous: never wavering in doing what is just and good. With God, David finds hope of redemption and relief from danger. He finds salvation in simply surrendering himself to his God.

When we seek refuge in God, we are never disappointed. Instead, our souls are kept safe, remaining unscathed by those who seek to do us harm, and preserved in the storms that howl around us. God is indeed righteous, our Rock and Refuge, our mountain Fortress. No storm or scheme is greater than Him. We are redeemed not because of the greatness of our faith in Him, but because of our faith in His greatness. What a blessing it is to know the saving grace of God!

Prayer:  Mighty God, thank You for being my Strength and my Refuge, and for granting me freedom and safety in You. Grant me Your strength and peace as I seek You in all I do today. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN.
