The Peace that Jesus gives is different than the peace that the world gives. It is far better than what the world can offer. It is a wholeness that can only be given by the Savior. As Jesus prepares to leave His disciples on the way to Calvary, He assures them that He will keep His Promise. He is going away, but will return to them. And because of this, the disciples have nothing to fear. They can rest in His Peace. Jesus leaves with the disciples His Peace on His way down a Chosen Path of torture, pain, and death. The Peace that He leaves with His disciples is not circumstantial, but everlasting, just as is Jesus Himself.
Jesus offers true Peace to all who believe in Him. This Peace can only given by God. What is this Peace? It is the confidence in His Promise and the certainty of His faithfulness. Perhaps we can physically feel His Peace fall afresh upon us when we ask God for it. But what’s important to know is that Jesus teaches that His Peace comes from the knowledge of Jesus, the reminder of His Promises, and the assurance of His Sovereignty. It is only by our recalling the Truth of our God that we can experience the Peace that Jesus has for us.
