Today’s Reading: Psalm 123

I lift my eyes to You, the One enthroned in heaven.

Psalm 123:1

Reflection: The favor of our God is the favor of the One enthroned in Heaven. There is no favor more blessed than that which is from Him Who is Sovereign over all. God’s favor is precious because it is a reminder of His Providence and Compassion. It is one of countless proofs of His great Love. This is why the psalmist longs for the favor of God. He waits attentively for it, watching for the movement of God that will provide it. As he endures scorn from his enemies, as he suffers from the contempt of those against him, the psalmist remains steadfast in waiting on God and His favor.

While enduring contempt from those against God and His people, we also do well to wait on the favor of the Lord. We remember that Jesus Christ Himself endured the fiercest scorn from those against Him in order to redeem the lost. It is a privilege to exemplify even a fraction of Jesus’ focus on the Father’s Will. We can trust that His favor allows us to follow Him faithfully in all situations. In the assurance of the Lord’s favor, the power of all trials and temptations dwindle, and God’s children are left at peace to sit intently at His feet and keep their eyes on Him. Do trials test your focus on the Lord today? Are temptations beckoning You away from His Presence? Beloved, be encouraged to sit and rest intently in the assurance of God’s favor, which will keep you as you seek Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the assurance of Your favor, for keeping me safe from all things that might take me away from Your Presence. Thank You for by Your Compassion proving that You are for me, that You, the One enthroned in Heaven, have blessed me with the privilege of sitting at Your feet in joyful hope and rest. Please steady my heart to focus on you in all situations, Lord. Please strengthen me to remain waiting on You regardless of trials or temptations. I want to remain near to You, Lord. I long to do Your Will. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Holy Name, AMEN.
