Today’s Reading: Judges 1:1-5

The Lord answered, “Judah is to go. I have handed the land over to him.”

Judges 1:2

Monday Reflection: After Israel’s leader Joshua dies, the Israelites learn to go to God directly for guidance and leadership. During this time, since there is no appointed leader over Israel but God Himself, the people must seek help directly from God. In the midst of their first pressing issue, they ask the Lord who should fight for their newly acquired land against the Canaanites. The Lord responds by not only giving them His counsel, but also guaranteeing their victory. He declares that the land will be handed over to Judah when this tribe fights for the land against the Canaanites. God not only provides the answers we seek to address our problems at hand, but also sees us through to the outcome that He arranges on our behalf.

Reflection questions:

– What does God’s response to the Israelites show you about His character?

– Think about a situation you are going through now in which you can seek God’s guidance. How can seeking God’s guidance affect the outcome of your situation?

Prayer: Sovereign Lord, thank You for walking me through all situations when I seek You. Thank You for Your great Providence which brings me through. I pray that You continue leading and guiding me. Help me to rely on Your counsel and wisdom in every circumstance. In Jesus’ Precious Name I pray, AMEN.
