Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 4:15-30
Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that He made with you, and make an idol for yourselves in the shape of anything He has forbidden you.
Deuteronomy 4:23
Reflection: It is one blessing to know about the True and Living God, and quite another to be in close relationship with Him. When God begins His covenant relationship with Israel, He commits to them His Love and Faithfulness for the benefit of His people. He provides for them, protects them, and gives to them a new land that He has promised they will call their own. On the threshold of this new territory, Moses warns God’s people to remember the Lord, and to stay away from worshipping false gods of their making. Only if they remain in relationship with God will they be able to enjoy the land that He has promised them.
Moses’ warning to the people resounds to us as believers in God through Jesus Christ. In recalling how He has reached us and rescued us to be in fellowship with Him, we can begin to understand the blessing of being called His own. Through our relationship with God, we receive His provision and protection. More importantly, we are blessed by His Nearness to us, and are given hope of a future with Him into eternity. Why would we ever want to depreciate this great treasure? With His Faithfulness in mind, how could we desire anything that separates us from our Loving God? Believer, be sure to remain steadfast in your commitment to God, Who keeps you. Take care to never stray from Him, in order that His Nearness would always prompt within you fullness of joy. The Lord God is Faithful. Remain faithful to Him.
Prayer: Loving and Compassionate God, You are wonderful. You have drawn me out of the miry clay and set me high upon the Rock of Your Salvation. You preserve me and provide for me. Because You are Good and Faithful, You go before me in all things. Thank You for Your Faithfulness, Lord. Thank You for Your Love. Please by Your Grace, Lord, help me to remain faithful to You. Remove from me all sin that keeps me from drawing close to You. Transform me to Your Likeness, that I would always give You Glory. I need You Lord, I am nothing without You. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ AMEN.
