Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 4:25-31

He will not leave you, destroy you, or forget the covenant with your fathers that He swore to them by oath, because the Lord your God is a compassionate God.

Deuteronomy 4:31

Reflect on the Notes below in our Life Group Zoom, Mondays at 7:30PM.

Sermon Main Idea: Though Israel will forget God, God will never forget Israel.

Text Notes:

  • The Consequences of Israel’s idolatrous heart. (v.25-28)
    • Israel will trade God’s grace for God’s wrath.
    • God will confirm Israel’s desire.
    • Israel will devalue God and destroy themselves.
  • The Content of a repentant heart. (v.29-30)
    • Israel will turn away from other gods.
    • Israel will seek God with their entire being.
    • Israel will return to God and listen to God’s voice.
  • The Character of God’s compassionate heart. (v.31)
    • God’s compassion guarantees the acceptance of Israel’s repentance.
    •  Israel will fail God, but God will never fail Israel.

Life Note: Though we are sinful, God is merciful. So, seek Him with all your heart and soul.

Reflection Questions:

  • When we have turned away from God, what keeps us from turning back to Him?
  • How does God’s compassion compel us to not only come back to God but to stay with God?
  • What are some ways we can seek God with all our heart and soul?

Prayer: Merciful and compassionate God, there is no one like You. Thank You for Your everlasting Faithfulness, and for Your abounding Love upon me. Forgive me for all of the times that I’ve abandoned You, for the times when I have failed to trust and abide in You. And thank You for Your constant care even when I stray. As I seek You, Lord, please help me to better walk in Your ways and follow You. I want to be near to You Lord. I pray all of these things in the Holy Name of Jesus, AMEN.
