Today’s Reading: Psalm 55
Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will support you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.
Psalm 55:22
Reflection
The LORD’s rescue ensures the destruction of those against His people. In times of conflict, how I often wish like the psalmist that I had wings like a dove, the ability to escape danger and find rest and safety elsewhere. I long, at times, to flee from pain and suffering, to hide from it. But the recollection of the LORD’s rescue reminds me to stand firm in faith in Him. God’s salvation stays His people and removes the danger from them. See that He brings His help by bringing His enemies down to the pit of destruction. See that He does not remove His people from danger, but allows them to endure it until danger is eradicated. When we call to Him, He is good to keep us unharmed. God’s eternal Salvation is also this way. He has not taken us away from sin and evil, but has sent His Son to destroy its power from our midst. By the Blood of Jesus, the LORD has taken our sin from us. While Satan roams about as a roaring lion waiting to devour people of God, God keeps His own from his grasp.
Therefore, as God’s people, we are assured of His power over all that should try to harm us. As we stand in a world of violence and strife, as we witness and experience crime, trouble, or deceit, we can be reminded that the LORD has already sent His eternal rescue from it all. We can trust that He stays us where He has placed us, but has destruction in store for those who come against Him. We need not fear anything, for the LORD has assured us of His safety.
Prayer
LORD, my Help and Salvation, I give You thanks for all that You have done to rescue me. Thank You for Your loving Sacrifice. Thank You for Your Son. Your help and strength allows me to endure all trials and tribulation. Your power and Presence assures me that I never have anything to fear, as long as I trust in You. Please help me to trust in You more, LORD. Help me to set all of my burdens and cares at Your feet. Help me to hope in You at all times. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
