Today’s Reading: John 4:39-42

And they told the woman, “We no longer believe because of what you said, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this really is the Savior of the world.”

John 4:42

Reflection

During His encounter with a Samaritan woman, Jesus reveals that He is the source of Eternal Life, and that He is the Promised Messiah of God. To prove His claims, Jesus amazes the woman by telling her facts about her life, specifically her several past relationships. The woman is so convicted of her belief in Jesus that she immediately goes into town to tell others about Him. As a result, the woman’s testimony guides many people of the town to seek Jesus.

When people hear about Jesus, they seek Him and invite Him to stay with them in Samaria. Jesus spends two days in a Samaritan town teaching the people about Himself. While the woman’s testimony about her encounter with Jesus is not in and of itself what causes people to believe in Jesus as the Messiah, her story is what guides them to investigate the Truth about Jesus which they find in Jesus Himself.

Our recollections about how Jesus has worked in our lives are great tools with which God equips us to point to the Truth of Jesus. Their role is to invite others to seek the Truth of Jesus in His Word. Let’s consider the following questions which will prepare us to share our testimony and point to the Truth of Jesus as the Promised Messiah.

Think about a time where you either witnessed or experienced God working in your life. What about your experience confirmed that God was at work, and what about God in the Bible does this experience bring to mind? How has the Truth of the Gospel affected your life?

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for keeping Your Promise through Your Beloved Son Jesus. Thank You that You are not only Good to send Him to do Your Work, but also Gracious to teach me about Him. I praise You Lord for Your Gospel Truth. I am thankful that You have changed my life by it. Help me to tell others about Your Truth. Help me to invite others to know Your Son. I pray these things in His Precious Name, AMEN.
