Today’s Reading: 2 Peter 1: 16-21
For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
2 Peter 1:16
Reflection
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is real. The Apostles’ ministry in the early Church was to recall the Truth of His Life, Death, and Resurrection. Their goal was to share with others what they had witnessed of Jesus, in order that others who heard of this evidence would understand for themselves that Jesus was indeed the Son of God, the Holy Savior. While other religions during Jesus’ time featured intriguing gods that had adventures with humans, they were all conjured myths that served more as entertainment. But the true recollections Jesus not only of the apostles but countless others who had witnessed for themselves all that Jesus said and did were more than enough to see that Jesus is really Who He says He is.
We live generations away from the time that Jesus walked the earth as a Man. But precious are the true accounts that we read about Him in the Scriptures. Because the Gospel is real, we can live by it in faith. We do not have a blind faith. We have more than enough evidence that has been complied about Jesus to see that He is God and has saved us from our sin. We have His Message which resounds the timeless Truth of God’s Saving Plan through Him, a Truth which with the Holy Spirit has been transforming hearts and minds long after its perfect completion. The story of Jesus is the greatest story ever told. Praise God that it is all true!
Prayer
Lord our God, thank You for the Truth of Your Gospel Message. Thank You for saving me. Thank You for recording Your Work through the numerous eyewitness accounts of others. You are so generous to have Your story written throughout ages for us to read and understand more about You. Thank You, Lord. As I seek You in Your Scriptures, please help me to read them for what they are: true stories about You and Your Son, Jesus Christ. Please grow me in faith by Your Word. I pray all of these things in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.
