Today’s Reading: Psalm 145

Yahweh is great and is highly praised; His greatness is unsearchable.

Psalm 145:3

Reflection: How could one fully measure the greatness of the LORD? Would it be by His excellence, by the wonder of His works? One would have to recount all of the marvelous deeds that God has done since the very Beginning. One might first begin by counting the blessings they have received from the LORD today and move back in time from there. One would have to account for every breath sustained, every bite of food, every drop of water, every ounce of joy, and more. Then one would have to consider all living things. This would just account for small proofs of the LORD’s greatness, for He has accomplished far greater things throughout the universe.

Would one measure the greatness of the LORD by His vastness? This would also be difficult, for God is the Eternal One. He has no beginning and no end. Not only does the LORD go one forever, but He always was. The LORD is limitless. He spans not only time, but the vastness of space. No place can contain Him. God is present everywhere. Would one measure the greatness of the LORD by His reputation? This also cannot be measured, since the LORD is the only One Whose reputation precedes Him in the heavens and the earth. All who know Him tremble in His holy Presence. Even His enemies shudder at the sound of His Name. The LORD is known increasingly throughout generations. He cannot be forgotten through history as all other people eventaully are. God’s greatness is unsearchable. It cannot be fathomed. It cannot be fully known.

Even the little that we do know of the LORD’s greatness is too wonderful to fully grasp. How can one completely understand his or her own eternal salvation that the LORD has achieved? Or great love that has been received? Or lasting mercies which are new every morning? How great is the LORD our God! This is the greatness of the God we serve. While it is unknown, the LORD’s greatness is proof that He deserves unending praise. O, exalt God our King in His greatness, and praise His Name forever and ever.

Prayer: LORD Almighty, You are truly great. There is no one like You in all of the heavens and the earth. I praise You, for You are worthy of all the praise I can give. Thank You for doing great things. Thank You for Your mercy and faithfulness. Thank You for Your Presence throughout the heavens and the earth. I pray that You open my eyes to see more and more of the wonderful ways that You are at work in the world. Help me to see how You are leading me to be a part of the marvelous things You are doing. I pray all of these thing in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
