Today’s Reading: Psalm 91

If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

Psalm 91:9-10

Reflection

Dwelling with the LORD is a decision that is made by every believer in Him. Those who declare the LORD’s refuge over them, those who declare God as their shield and protector are those who have chosen to find shelter under His wing. God indeed covers His people beneath His protection and rescues them from the fowler’s snare. No harm comes to the beloved of God because of the LORD’s care over them. They are kept safe because they have sought His protection and have responded to His beckoning by drawing near.

The respite of the shelter of the Most High God is available to whoever would come to find rest in it. The dwelling place of the LORD is a refuge for whoever seeks it. The LORD has made available His protection and safety to whoever would look upon Him and acknowledge Him. ‘Because he loves me,’ says the LORD of His people, ‘I will rescue him…he will call on me and I will answer him.’

In this world of sin and darkness, danger lurks around every corner. The enemy prowls like an lion looking to devour any that should cross his path. But thanks be to the LORD our God that we are not destined to wander aimlessly, hoping to escape eternal destruction. Praise God that He guarantees His refuge and safety if we should come to Him in earnest to be saved.

Prayer

O LORD, You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. You know what danger lurks in this world of sin, and have already saved us from it by the wonderful work of Your precious Son. Thank You for all You have done for us. I pray that You would help me to remember to seek You in need, in doubt, and in weakness, that I would grow stronger in dependence on You for all things. I need You every hour, LORD. Please keep me in Your eternal care. I pray these things in Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
