God always keeps His promises. There is nothing that can be done to negate or overwhelm the promises that God declares over His people. The destruction of mere mortals can do nothing to steal away all that He has declared for us. In spite of the way that foes attack, in spite of how they slander and plot to harm, the damage that people can do is only temporary. But the Work that the LORD does is lasting, which is why we can trust in Him. The psalmists’ hope is in the LORD and His promises. Though he watches his enemies surround him, the psalmist calls to mind all that he knows the LORD will do on his behalf.
All of God’s promises are for the benefit of His people. But which promise of God gives the psalmist such assurance? It is the promise of salvation from death. While the psalmist is confronted with enemies at every side, he is still able to be confident in what God has done to secure his life. We who know the fullness of God’s Salvation through Christ can also give God praise in the midst of danger. For we have already been rescued. The LORD remembers us, and sees what we endure. God will not fail to address wickedness. He will not turn a blind eye toward evil and sin. He will utterly destroy it in order that HIs people remain unharmed forever. We can hope in the everlasting life that God provides because it is what He has secured for us. Our God preserves us in order that we can walk with Him for eternity.
